I started my pottery journey at the Yard School of Art, Montclair Art Museum, in 2013, under the tutelage of Carla Horowitz. From these classes, my love bloomed into making functional pottery. After four years of working together, Carla lovingly suggested and helped me acquire a potter’s wheel and kiln. Today, I am fortunate enough to design, throw, and fire all of my pottery in my home studio.
My endeavor to create mugs, bowls, and plates, which included hand-building and turning on a wheel - has turned into a passion. I thoroughly enjoy challenging my pottery skills by fulfilling requests from family and friends, referrals, and social media. I’ve been able to design a sink for my daughter's new bathroom; a dog bowl for her puppy Belle; nested bowls for my eldest daughter; snack bowls and espresso cups for my son; and for others a garden angel, salt pigs, and more custom mugs than I can count.
I’ve been asked many times how I started pottery and was able to immerse into it so fully at this stage in my life. What I know is that through all of my travels around the world, I’ve always been fascinated by the craftsmanship at local pottery shops and very often bought a variety of the artisan’s work. As my children moved out and began pursuing their own dreams, it just made sense to fulfill one of my own.
Pottery is a wonderful passion to have and so rewarding when a finished piece is revealed. I look forward to many more years of throwing, creating, and learning new skill sets.
